15. A few words about words.
Words, words, words! All created (&used&misused) by
fallible humans! We need words (but not in order to think) only in
order to communicate our thoughts. If you don't believe me, just
stop&try to think of a time when you had something you wanted to say, but
just couldn't find the words to say it with.
One reason I created
‘POW-words' (for my website&my posters) was to see if I could render
words visually in ways that might be somewhat similar to what we do
(when we speak): with volume & inflection to help mitigate the
unavoidable gap that always exists between our words & our understandings
of the reality behind them! (which is really what we want to communicate)!
If we didn't have such a powerful need to understand that reality, we
probably wouldn't have such a strong need to try to communicate our
(feeble) understandings.
Having only one set of fallibly
perceptive sensors, (even with the help of our fabulously intricate
brains), we each must proceed with caution as we learn to cope with the
reality we're all immersed in. Each tentative perception must be
validated (again&again) by further experience, whether it be our own
experience or someone else's.
So in order to help validate our
perceptions (our understandings) of real reality, we try to communicate
using whatever words we have available to us. But, then you (who
are reading these words) must try to guess the real nature of the
reality I'm trying to communicate. Trying to put your
understandings of my understandings of that reality into your own words
is a good place to start.
But then, I'll still have to guess
the nature of the reality you're trying to express! & so it goes!
Even if we seem to agree, we can never be sure we have guessed
correctly until we act on our understandings. Actions are always real;
our words can never be that real. But even actions can be
misunderstood! So we still have to question, question, question,
stay humble & forgive,forgive,forgive!
