In spite of the company's name, before the Anyanka class Kelso Starworks had previously designed only small inexpensive in-system spacecraft to handle starport cargo/passenger transfer traffic or serve as starship auxiliary vehicles. To avoid expensive experimentation, it was decided to use systems and hull elements from existing designs whenever possible. Except for the jump drive which was adapted from the Empress Marava (T:FT110), most of the components came from either the KS modular cutter (T:MC35) or one of its standard modules with long term accomodations.
