After I designed this, my muse decided to gift me with a design for my customized IFB. It's TL/11 because it's ancestors (my Rochester-class Ferry and the Liverpool-class Dispersed Hull Bulk Freighter [p.T:S97]) were TL/11.

TL11 Audhumla-class 20,000-ton Jump Tanker (Download GVB File)

Named after the cow whose milk nourished Ymir (the giant who was the ancestor of all living things in Norse mythology), this variant of the Rochester-class Interstellar Ferry was redesigned specifically to service Bifrost Station. The main alteration: twelve 800-dton unpressurized hangar bays were replaced by a single 10,000-dton one. To accommodate this 600 dton expansion, 1,000 dtons of jump fuel tanks were removed from the aft section, with the left over space being filled by:

  1. a 114 space external cradle to hold a loaded 10,000-ton fuel blimp on the outbound journey.
  2. a small entry module to access the blimp in both external cradle and hangar bay.
  3. 125 collapsible tank modules to fill the hangar bay on the outbound journey. (The empty blimp will fill the hangar bay inbound.)
  4. a solid armor plate placed in the front of the forward section to protect the collapsible tanks from micrometeorites.
  5. 280 combination electrolysis/fuel processors, capable of refining 1,000 dtons of raw LHyd or "cracking" 112 dtons of water in 1.2 hours.
  6. a 60 dton unpressurized cargo hold with attached half space collapsible tank module, which may be used to store an extra cutter module, sealed containerized cargo or bulk cargo stored in the tank.

In the pressurized subhull, the jump drive was enlarged by 50% to handle the added volume of the blimp. This was done by reducing the size of the manuever drive and cargo holds and removing five staterooms. The last, unfortunately, means that the entire crew (including all the officers) is forced to double bunk. While the internal tanks can handle a one parsec jump, the addition fuel needed for a two parsec jump will come from the fuel blimp via feed lines in the external cradle or the hangar bay.

On the Bifrost run, the tank modules will initially contain water which will be "cracked" by electrolysis over the next week. 100 tank modules will be processed in jump with "waste" oxygen being jettisoned to replace the fuel used to get there, the rest in port with the oxygen sold to station life support and 1,000 dtons of LHyd reserved for the trip home.

The sAccel of this ship varies widely with its current load. Here are some examples:

From To Payload (dtons) LMass (stons) sAccel
home highport jump point out 15,000 water, no blimp 238,395 0.053 Gs
home highport jump point out 15,000 water + loaded blimp 252,506 0.050 Gs
jump point in Bifrost Station 12,000 LHyd + 3,000 water 70,395 0.180 Gs
Bifrost Station jump point out 1,000 LHyd, no blimp 14,395 0.878 Gs
Bifrost Station jump point out 1,000 LHyd + empty blimp 18,606 0.680 Gs
jump point in home highport dry fuel tank + empty blimp 14,606 0.866 Gs
jump point in home highport dry fuel tank, no blimp 10,395 1.217 Gs

The "home highport" is probably Anduril, Joyeuse or Gram, or maybe Orcrist (the atmosphere may be exotic, but apparently not the oceans). Not Colada though; according to p.T:ST73, "any world with a hydrographic percentage of 40% or less" is likely to have "restrictions on using water as fuel" and Colada (barely) fits in this category, although the starport is on the coast north of Feornyelseborg.

TL9 Heimdal-class 400-ton Patrol Cruiser (Download GVB File)

Named after the Norse god that guards the rainbow bridge, the Hiemdal-class is the Sword World Confederation's equivalent of the Imperial Rudra-class Type T patrol cruiser, and is used exclusively by the Confederation Patrol for customs inspections, piracy suppression, and starport defense duties. It typically carries a Werrick-class 20-ton Military Launch modified for combat boardings in space and a Skraaling APC (p.T:SW124) to assault criminal ground positions. With many Confederation downports being situated on or near a seacoast (p.T:SW99), a favored tactic is to lie in wait 400 feet below the ocean's surface (its rated test depth) guarding the port's approach/departure lanes. This ship is usually commanded by a junior officer (an Overhode or Leutnant, often in his first independant command) and due to the limited space, everybody (even the commander) double bunks.

TL9 Heidrun-class 400-ton Fuel Shuttle (Download GVB File)

The Heidrun-class Fuel Shuttle is named after the goat in Valhalla that gives mead from her udders instead of milk. This refers to its role in providing a parent vessel (or fleet) with unrestricted refueling capabilty: it not only can refine gas giant atmosphere in flight, but with 4,800 tons of contragravity lift can also fill its main tank with water and deliver it to orbit (sAccel is 0.163 G in this mode, and it can't take off vertically from worlds with more than 1.14 G local gravity) where it can be "cracked" by electrolysis into LHyd (450 dtons) and LOX (225 dtons). Like many Sword World vessels it uses a total conversion rocket rather than reactionless thrusters, and has a separate fuel tank to feed it for 5.21 hours (more enough for a standard gas giant skimming run, and it can be refilled from the main tank if necessary).

Crew: Captain/Pilot, Navigator/Pilot, Sensors/Comm Operator/Cargomaster, Engineer.

Subassemblies: SL Hull +9.

Powertrain: small engineering, combination contragravity system (300 tons lift), three contragravity (4,500 tons lift), 20 ST, Isp 30,000,000, delta-V 465,278 mph, rocket drives (5.21 hrs duration).
