Return to The Wreck of the ERIE BELLE | The ERIE BELLE's Boiler "The Wreck of the Erie Belle" Medallion
This medallion was struck to commemmorate the first Kincardine Old Boy's Reunion in the early 1970s. Versions were struck in both bronze and silver. This example is not for sale, and is shown here for information only.
A digital enhancement of the engraving of the ERIE BELLE and a schooner from the medallion shows a drawing of the ERIE BELLE after her 1879 reconstruction as a tug. Photographs of the schooner CARTER that was being salvaged when the ERIE BELLE exploded in 1883 show a different rig than depicted for the schooner on the medallion. The CARTER was a tradional fore-and-aft schooner, while this medallion presents a bark rig.
