TEXT ONLY ACCOUNTS - using the 'Lynx' web browser, and 'Pine' mail program are still available at a cost of $35.00 per year (plus $10 setup fee on new accounts) for 50 hours/month of text-only dial-up access, and 2MB disk space. How Do I Become A Member?

Visit our office on the second floor of the Eva Rothwell Centre (in the old Robert Land School building) at 460 Wentworth St. N. or fax or mail in your signed membership agreement. Dial-up accounts will be active upon receipt of your signed agreement along with your payment. DSL Service will be activated 5 days after payment/signup.
To activate DSL service on your line, we need the name/address information exactly as it appears on your telephone bill (to validate the order with your phone company) and if your home phone provider is not Bell, we need to have the name of the company, and the circuit number for your line.

How do I pay?

All HWCN services are pre-paid. You may pay by cash, debit, cheque or credit card, in person at our office. In addition, you may renew an existing account by mail, or by giving us your credit card information by telephone. You can also arrange automatic monthly credit card payments by calling our office. Or use your bank’s telephone or internet banking services to make payments (your “account number” isyour HWCN User-ID).

Sorry, we do not make ‘automatic withdrawals’ using void cheques. Please make arrangements for direct payments by calling your bank. We do not accept personal cheques for DSL modem purchases.

How do I setup/install HWCN on my computer?

Dial-Up: We provide written step-by-step instructions for setting up a dial-up connection using Windows "New Connection Wizard".

High-Speed DSL: If you purchase your DSL modem from HWCN we will pre-program it with your account information and settings at the HWCN office, so that in most cases all you have to do is take the modem home, connect it to your phone line and computer LAN connection, and turn your computer on.
Included with your modem purchase you will receive three phone line filters which you need to connect to your voice telephones, to suppress the 'hiss' of DSL on your phone line. If you need more than three, we have extra filters available for purchase for $4 each (GST/PST included).

If you have any problems during setup, our friendly help desk staff are available to walk you through the setup process.

What if I use up my monthly dial-up time?

The modem will disconnect when you call. Block time is available for 10hr/$5.00. Note: The extra time does not carry over to the next month.

What if I need more space for mail/website?

Call our office. Small increases in space are available at no charge. Larger increases can be purchased for a nominal fee.
