What is a virus?

A virus is a harmful computer program which attaches itself to other files on your computer. Everytime you use those files, the virus is executed and causes various amounts of damage.

What is an email virus?

The most common type of virus, an email virus can spread quickly in the form of an email attachment sent unknowingly by the user, or in some cases, automatically by the virus itself.

What is a worm?

A worm is a destructive program that will scan computer networks looking for security holes or ways to multiply to other computers in the network. Once one is found it duplicate and the new worm will repeat the process.

What is a Trojan Horse?

A Trojan Horse is simply a program the appears to be something it is not. For example, it may appear to be a game that you can play on your computer, but when executed it actually will cause damage to you computer.

How do I stop any of the above?

The best way to stop any type of virus is to have up-to-date antivirus software. Another preventive measure is to not open or at least scan any email attachments that you receive, even if you know the person that sent it to you.
