Internet Mail for Windows 3.1

The following are instructions on how to manually set up your email account. It is recommended that you print a copy of this page for future reference.

  1. From the Program Manager double left click on the Microsoft Internet Explorer icon.

  2. Double left click on the Internet Mail icon. Enter your User ID and your password, which are the same as those used by your HWCN account. A mail configuration dialogue box will appear stating Profile details for <User ID> not found. Create new user?. Click on OK.

  3. The Wizard dialogue box appears telling you that it needs to gather information. Click Next.

  4. Type in your name and your current e-mail address in the appropriate fields. Be sure that your e-mail address is exact and that there are no spaces entered. Click Next.

  5. In the Incoming Mail (POP3) Server field enter pop.hwcn.org. In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server field enter smtp.hwcn.org. Use lowercase for each of these entries and again, be sure no spaces are entered. Click Next.

  6. Enter a name for your e-mail account (your User ID) and your password in the appropriate fields. Leaving the password blank will cause a password prompt every time you access your Internet Mail. Click Next.

  7. The next box of the Wizard congratulates you for completing the setup. Click Finish to enter Internet Mail.

  8. Click on Mail from the menu bar of Internet Mail, and then select Options. Click on the Server tab and make sure there is not an X beside Leave a copy of messages on server. Go through the five tabs located at the top of the Options dialogue box to set your personal preferences. Click on OK.

  9. Close all open applications and reboot your computer.
