Thank a cylist today

TLC Media Release

Have you thanked a cyclist today? Transportation for Liveable Communities (TLC) is putting up posters around town with the simple, encouraging message "Thanks for Riding Your Bicycle." TLC is hoping the small gesture of support for cycling will keep cyclists going in these difficult days.

Despite intense heat and an ongoing smog alert, many Hamiltonians still choose the bicycle to get around - these people are the epitome of the city's Vision 2020 for a sustainable city when it comes to transportation - sustainable, non-polluting. Yet to do their thing, they must ride through poison air caused, in large part, by the dominant transportation mode - the car.

Drivers can do more than thank a cyclist: they can make an effort to limit their driving during smog alerts. Even in the midst of an ongoing heat and smog crisis, people still idle their cars in parking lots, adding to the pollution while going nowhere.

Have you thanked a cyclist today? Transportation for Liveable Communities (TLC) is putting up posters around town with the simple, encouraging message “Thanks for Riding Your Bicycle.” TLC is hoping the small gesture of support for cycling will help keep cyclists going in these difficult days.

Despite intense heat and an ongoing smog alert, many Hamiltonians still choose the bicycle to get around - these people are the epitome of the city’s Vision 2020 for a sustainable city when it comes to transportation - sustainable, non-polluting.

Reporters are encouraged to remind people of their responsibility to limit car use where possible.

TLC would like to see more people choose to car-pool, take transit, cycle or walk. One less car means a lot less pollution.
