1. CHAPTER UPDATES
Volunteer Hours:
Updated with CPF Ontario until March 31, 2008.
Membership Report:
" Membership update tabled
" Fees for new members acquired from the SEVEC exchange
is to be paid from the SEVEC account
Action Items:
" Roz to confirm the number of new members and request a
cheque from Frank.
Treasurer's
Report
" Report provided at meeting
" Year end financial report will be required using March
31, 08 date
Action Items:
" Frank to identify CPF grant for FI promotion from chapter
rebate.
" Identify Concert revenues by the year.
" Roz to clarify what is owed for brochures printed for
Information nights.
Communication:
.1 Newsletter:
The April 2008 Newsletter to be distributed at Meeting on April
16th, all articles to be submitted by to Dianne by Friday, April
4, 2008.

2. PAST CHAPTER
EVENTS
.1 Hamilton
Reads:
" Myra attended event and took photos. Will submit a report
for the newsletter. Approximately 10-20 people in attendance.
" Discussed possibility of piggy backing on other successful
groups, such as St. Joseph Church-Youth group many of the kids
are in French Immersion.
" Ask the library for a book that caters to a specific age
group.
" Perhaps a different library - Once the new library on
the mountain is completed, perhaps Terryberry can begin to host
events again.
.2 French Immersion
Information Nights:
" CPF fliers (approx 5000) were distributed to all JK students
in both Boards, promoting the benefits of French Immersion, and
announcing the times and dates of the School hosted Information
nights
" Posters announcing the Information nights, mailed to all
Daycares in Hamilton (90).
" Additional brochures were purchased from CPF National.
" All 13 sessions were attended by CPF representatives.
.3 Gotta Love
that French: Concerts have been quite successful, and has proven
to be the much needed break from the usual French Music concerts.
The last of the shows will be at the end of March. A letter of
recommendation was written by one school.
Action Items:
" Kaywana to follow up with Helene and confirm final amounts.
. 4 Concours:
Public Board has completed their contests and are set to participate
in the Provincial competition. The Catholic Board had decided
to hold the competition bi-annually, and it has been indicated
that they will host the competition this year, date has not yet
been announced
Action Items:
" Kaywana to call and find out the proposed dates for the
Catholic Board's competition.
3. UPCOMING
CHAPTER EVENTS
.1 SEVEC:
" Interviews completed, twins will be announced in April.
" References have been called, and 'Police checks' are being
collected.
" Bookings for events are being made, buses have been reserved
Action Items:
" Kaywana to confirm availability of Cathedral for Pot Luck
night.
" Roz to confirm Norwood as 'Drop off' and 'Pick up' point
for the buses.
.2 AGM: Survival
Night for French Immersion Parents: a night to inform parents
about things they can do to help their children in French -Emphasis
will be on families with children in primary grades, but all
CPF members will be invited. - Tuesday, May 13, 2008. Proposed
materials will be: helping with homework, French pronounciation,
French activities outside of school, and French at the Hamilton
Public Library. We will provide snacks and drinks, and childcare.
We will use the Best Practices binder provided by CPF Ontario
to help with presentation content.
Action Items:
" Kaywana to see if St. Joseph is available- if not, she
will try Melrose Church, and if a Grade 1 French Immersion Teacher
can present.
" Once date and speaker, confirmed, contact Hamilton Public
Library for possible speaker and display
" Will meet before the AGM to plan further details.
.3 Franco-Fete:
" It was agreed that we would continue to support this event.
We await word from the Centre de Francais on the date and activities.
" Try to arrange for the Ontario SEVEC kids to attend a
picnic at the fete, and perhaps have a French Scavenger hunt
- if the date occurs before they leave for Quebec.
4. SEPARATE
BOARD ISSUES
" Keys to French to each student - has not been provided
as yet.
" ½ position for a Core French Resource Teacher -
has not been filled to date.
" French Public speaking competition is planned, but not
announced.
" CPF sent a letter to the Director of Education (HWCDSB)
- Jan. 2008, requesting that CPF Hamilton Wentworth (Catholic
Executive Members) be allowed to participate in the accommodation
review of the French Immersion program - copied F.I. Principals,
Trustees, F.I. Parent Councils, the F. I. Superintendent, and
the F.I. Resource teacher - to date there has been no response.
5. PUBLIC BOARD
ISSUES
" FIAC meeting March 26 - Discussion items will include
shared bussing and the proposed F.I. program
for Ancaster.-Roz will attend
" Need to keep informed about registration numbers on east
Mountain and in Ancaster -will review the
need for further promotion at FIAC. We have some money remaining
from the CPF Ontario grant.
6. FRANCOPHONE
COMMUNITY
The Francophone Community is hosting a French Flm festival on
the weekend of March 28-30th at the Hamilton Marine Museum.
Details have been distributed to the F.I. Schools.
