NOTE FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS: The Hamilton Wentworth District School Board offers an Early French Immersion Program beginning in senior kindergarten. It is designed to provide English-speaking children with opportunities to become highly proficient in French as well as in English. All classroom instruction in senior kindergarten and grade 1 is given in French. In grade 2 English Language Arts are introduced and in subsequent grades the amount of English instruction is increased. Upon graduation, the student is expected to be functionally bilingual. The curriculum for subjects taught in French is the same as in the regular English program.

French Immersion is an optional program. As a result, the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board provides only limited transportation for children who are not within walking distance of a French Immersion school. This transportation is dependent upon Provincial funding. More information about the French Immersion Program offered by the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board can be found on their web site.

NOTE FOR SEPARATE SCHOOLS: The Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board offers an Early French Immersion Program beginning in senior kindergarten. It is designed to provide English-speaking children with opportunities to become proficient in French as well as English. Most classroom instruction in senior kindergarten is given in French. Instruction from grade 1 to grade 8 is half in French and half in English. The curriculum for subjects taught in French is the same as in the regular English program.

Transportation for the French Immersion program is provided from the student's home school to the French Immersion school and back. If the student lives within the catchment area for the French Immersion school then the student will be expected to walk.
