Communications:
Our fall newsletter was sent out earlier this month.
Roz updated the website to include a link to the Level 2 French
Course registration, as well as include an advertisement for
the Book Sale on Nov. 26/03 at St. Joseph's School.
Kaywana wrote to the new trustees of the local Catholic School
Board to increase their awareness of CPF and what it can offer
to FI parents. Kaywana will forward the letter to Deb, who will
send similar letters to the new trustees of the Public School
Board.
Frank, Deb, and Roz took part in the cheque presentation ($2500.00)
on behalf of CPF to the Hamilton Public Library for funds to
purchase children's French materials. The library is planning
another Story Time for young children (0-6 yrs) in the new year.
3. BOOK SALE:
Carrie spoke to Tralco Educational regarding potential participation
in the Book Sale, but decided they would not get involved this
time. They may be open to participate in other ventures in the
future.
Roz e-mailed everyone with a poster to print and post in their
home schools. She also produced and distributed flyers. Everyone
was to print and take it to their home school(s) and ask if they
would distribute to all the FI parents in their school(s). The
"shift" sign-up sheet was reviewed and spaces were
potentially filled. All help was welcomed.
Kaywana made a banner to advertise the Book Sale at St. Joseph's.
She was hoping to make another to post up at another nearby FI
school. She also had a list of teachers volunteering to help
parents find books, etc. appropriate for their needs. It was
suggested that name labels be made to help identify these "helpful
teachers" in the crowd, so parents know who to approach
for help.
4. LEVEL TWO FRENCH COURSE:
Roz and Marie reviewed the course material sent by CPF Ontario.
Marie didn't find as many errors in the material as last time.
Kaywana spoke with parents enrolled in the French Level 1 Course
at Norwood, and they seem very pleased with the instructor and
the progress of the course.
It has not been finalized yet whether Annette is interested in
teaching the Level 2 course.
Roz has received 2 e-mails about the Level 2 course so far. We
are planning to offer the Level 2 course in February, allowing
us to advertise it in our Janurary newsletter.
Teacher evaluations for each Level 1 course will be distributed
and collected by a CPF member, not the instructor, at the end
of each course.
5. FRENCH CONCERT WITH
ETIENNE:
The total number of potential students attending the concert
have not been confirmed by Gisele yet. Roz e-mailed Etienne to
inform of the situation thus far. There will be an evening concert
at least at the forum at Cathedral High School. The charge for
each ticket will be $5.00 per person.
Kaywana contacted her friend to do the puppet show as an opening
act (15-20 min.). She was also going to check whether we could
sell pop and chips etc. at the event, and confirm the date with
the principal at Cathedral for Feb. 11/04.
6. JANUARY NEWSLETTER:
This newsletter will include an ad for the Etienne concert, registration
for the Level 2 French course, and a photo the Level 1 course
presently in progress at Norwood Park. It will also provide a
reference to our website where parents can read information about
our local FI secondary school education and the advantages of
staying in the FI program. (Sue will provide information on the
course offerings at Westadale for grades 9-12. Kaywana will gather
the information on Cathedral.) There may also be an ad or article
regarding the Le Concours public speaking contest to remind students
to start preparing their speeches if they are planning to participate.
Finally, a notice regarding JK/SK registration may also be included
in this issue.
7. PUBLIC BOARD ISSUES:
The FIAC meeting that was to be held this month was cancelled,
so no news was brought forward.
In June 2003, Roz received a letter from Fran Sutton (CPF Ontario)
regarding the new transportation funding model. She has forwarded
the letter to Giselle Portelance for her information.
8. SEPARATE BOARD ISSUES:
Refer to Kaywana's letter-writing efforts under "Communications".
9. OTHER BUSINESS:
Marie will check to see if Anthony Mollica will be a guest speaker
at our AGM in the spring (2004).
Next meeting will be held
on Wednesday January 14, 04 at Fortino's (Mall Road) upstairs.
Meeting adjourned at 8:25
p.m.
