of the Hamilton-Wentworth Executive

1. Call to order: The meeting was called to order by the Chair at
7:07 p.m.
2. Approval of the agenda:
3. Adoption of the minutes: The minutes were approved by Andrew Vowles.
4. Volunteer hours: The total volunteer hours logged since December
was 183.
5. Treasurer's Report:
Balance on hand $444.25
Expenditures $310.50 (Printing)
Deposits $100.00
Balance as of February 21st - $233.75
6. Membership report: There is one new member giving us a total of 46-50
members including spouses. CPF pamphlets were distributed at
the JK/SK information nights. The Chapter # 2180 should be on
all applications.
7. Special Events:
SK Information
Nights: Two
SK French Immersion nights have been held at Waterdown and GR
Allan. Both nights were well attended by prospective parents.
Three more Information Nights will be covered by members of
the Executive.
EQAO Presentation:
The presentation
is set for March 19th in the Norwood Park gym. Claudette will
report on how Hamilton FI students did in the EQAO as well as
the O.I.S.E report on FI results. Information letters have gone
to all the schools, and the event has been publicized in our
newsletter. Tracey will forward information on bringing refreshments.
Arrival for set-up should be at 6:30 pm. Possibility of door
prizes from Claudette and Scholar's Choice.
French Book
Sale: The
proposed date for the sale is May 14th at Earl Kitchener. Champlain
will bring everything as long as we take it back. We will get
a percentage of the sales. Marie and Deborah will continue with
the organization.
8. Communications:
Newsletter: The first newsletter
was released and distributed to all FI students, teachers, and
support staff. 1800 letters were printed at a cost of $310.50
Kevin & Kim contributed the cost of stapling the newsletter.
Web site:
The website
is up and running. Roz is updating the information regularly.
Café
Night: CPF
will be publicized at the Café Night at Norwood Park.
Public service
announcements:
Kevin has worked on this area with success. Radio stations are
running the CPF announcements. CPF Ontario has not yet responded
regarding the possibility of billboards.
9. French Immersion Review: Dean presented the CPF Hamilton Wentworth response
to the Board meeting on our behalf. The trustees supported the
recommendations. Items that could be implemented directly with
no cost were fully supported and the others will be analyzed
for their costs. Word will be sent out via e-mail when the recommendations
come back to the Board from the Executive Council. We must register
10 days in advance to speak at the meeting.
10. Conversational French
Chat Group: This is an organization
for parents to get together with a francophone mediator to assist
in the conversation. Julie is following up on how this was done
in other chapters. She will report back at the next meeting.
