3. SPECIAL EVENTS
CPF Conference
Marie will be attending the CPF Conference in Ottawa October
18-19 as the Hamilton-Wentworth Chapter representative.
Meet the Teacher
Nights
We will try to co-ordinate the CPF display board so that it can
appear at as many schools as possible this September. CPF Ontario
has sent us some new brochures, which will be distributed to
everyone.
Mariposa in
the Schools Concert
We are still waiting to hear from Claudette Sims about the possibility
of booking the auditorium at the Board for a Friday evening in
October. Frank will find out what the cost/rules are for booking
Westdale auditorium. As soon as a venue is located, Roz will
book a Mariposa program. Tickets will be offered to CPF members
prior to offering them to all parents (so as to provide members
with added value). Mariposa
in the Schools
School Trips
in French
This was put on our "to do" list for next Spring. It
was also recommended that if another Carmen Campaigne concert
is held in Mississauga next June it should be promoted in our
Spring CPF newsletter.
Parent Conference
The Hamilton School Board have asked CPF to work with a teacher
on a 75 minute workshop to be presented on Saturday November
16, 2002 at Sherwood High School. Lori Prevec and Gisele Portelance
will be giving a PowerPoint presentation (based on the one used
by Claudette Sims at the Kindergarten Information Nights this
spring). Roz will work on a CPF PowerPoint presentation to follow.
We will also have membership applications and the CPF display
on hand.
4. COMMUNICATIONS:
CPF Newsletter
Roz will put together the newsletter once the details of the
Mariposa concert are finalized. Other suggestions for newsletter
content include the Parent Conference, back to school tips and
advance notice of the French Course. The newsletter will likely
be distributed the last week of September or first week of October.
Parent Group
Brochure
Norwood Park School Council, Home & School and CPF Hamilton-Wentworth
have put together a parent brochure that explains the difference
between the three groups. A draft copy is available in case you
would like to adapt it for your school.
5. W. R. MCGILLIVRAY
AWARD:
No decision yet from CPF Ontario.
6. CONVERSATIONAL
FRENCH:
The course content
for the ten week course is aimed at those who have had no French
language instruction at all. It is proposed to offer the course
in January. The course will be $25 for members and $50 for non-members
(with a membership included). CPF members will be offered the
opportunity to take the course first. The course will be opened
up to 20 students and if the response is good, then another night
will be added (possibly Mondays and Wednesdays). Marie has a
possible instructor and will let us know in September.
