On behalf of the Faith and Practice Development Committee I thank you for sending us a report of the comments made by Hamilton Friends on the first draft of the "Stages of Life" chapter. We hope that you can find an opportunity to pass our appreciation on to these Friends.
The committee will be meeting in May, and at that time we will be discussing your comments, as well as those from other Meetings. We will surely be taking special note of your advice that this work of creating a Canadian Faith and Practice not be hurried.
Committee members feel encouraged by the continuing interest shown by Friends in Hamilton and throughout our Yearly Meeting.
In friendship

See http://www.fgcquaker.org/gathering/ for more information.
"Weaving the Blessed Tapestry" is the theme, bringing together all the elements of the Quaker community. The group "Trout Fishing in America" will put on a concert. Bishop John Spong ("Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism") will present the first Elizabeth Watson lecture. (We have a book of his in the library). Worship is held daily.
There is a family gathering place for younger children,as well as Junior Gathering for children grades 1 - 7, Junior High School and High School gatherings. Young Adult Friends develop a separate community. Multi-generation activities occur regularly.
Lots of music, movement like yoga, folk dancing, an art gallery and book store.
Accommodations available in single and double rooms, with or without A/C. Camping also.
Financial support is available.
More specific program information available in the Advance Program at our meeting house. Workshops tend to run for a half day daily through the whole week. A sacred chant workshop will be lead by Beverly. There are dozens of other choices.
If you have never been to FGC Gathering, consider it because it is a wonderful experience. Talk to Ian, Bev, Carol Leigh, Don or Harriet (and I am sure there are others).

After receiving copy from Khalil Wissa of a document from the Afghanistan Ministry of the Interior stating that it is not safe for Khalil and his family to return to their country, I contacted the office of Russ Powers, M.P., to ask for advice on our best course of advocacy at this point.
On April 25, 2005, I submitted the requested letter of information to Mr Powers'office to inform him of this case. During his next stay in Ottawa from May 2 to May l9, Mr Powers will personally approach the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration to brief him on this situation and inquire about the best approach we can now pursue to expedite processing of our Refugee Sponsorship application on behalf of the Wissa family.
Please hold this concern in the light.
Yours in friendship,
Louise
Dear Friends,
I'll be making a trip to Hamilton over the long weekend (May 21-22) to sort through some of our belongings. If you or anyone you know is interested in any of the following items please let us know (rather than carrying them to Winnipeg, we've decided to just give them away). I plan to be at the meeting house on Saturday May 21. I'll have a half-ton truck so if you want them I could help get them to your place. If no one is interested in these things I'll be taking them to the Goodwill Amity.
Let us know if you're interested by email or phone, or leave a note on the Meeting house cork board and I'll set it aside.
All the best to everyone!
Tamara"Silence will illuminate you in God and deliver you from phantoms of ignorance. Silence will unite you to God. More that all things, love silence; it brings you a fruit that the tongue cannot describe. In the beginning we have to force ourselves to be silent. But then from our very silence is born something that draws us into deeper silence. May God give you an experience of this "something" that is born of silence. If you practice this, inexpressible light will dawn upon you."
