This meeting was called, further to our minutes of Sunday, November 25, and Thursday, December 6, 2001, to begin the process of discerning the sense of the meeting, concerning the war in Afghanistan, and future developments. This sense, when fully developed, will be delivered to Ottawa, by three (later amended to be four) representatives from Meeting, to be proposed by Nominating Committee.
Minute Nominating Committee proposed three names to this called meeting to be our representatives to Ottawa. They are: Dick Preston, Hanna Newcombe and Diana Shepard.
Being mindful of the possibility that because of unavoidable conflicts, Diana Shepard may not be able to go to Ottawa, Emily Shepard, Beth Shepard and Anna Peters were proposed as alternates.
We strongly support these nominations, with a concern about the absence of a mid-generation voice. We ask Nominating Committee to bring another name forward to join these three, to be approved at the February Meeting for Worship for Business, or following a Meeting for Worship in the meantime. We express our appreciation for Nominating Committee's work incarefully considering the composition of this group.
