Education Act, Section 21 (2)(a)
Ministry Memorandum from Provincial School Attendance counselor, re: determining Satisfactory Instruction, June 8, 1981.
Home Schooling children are not included on a school register.
The homeschooler can be registered part time at school and included in a part
time register.
Students who have been deemed exceptional while in school and are withdrawn for
Home Schooling lose their exceptional status.
Neither promotion nor credit equivalency can be granted on the basis of
Homeschooling instruction.
1. In order to have a child excused from compulsory school attendance, the parent(s) report the intention to instruct the student at home to the principal and appropriate Supervisory Officer with a copy to Malcolm Powell, Supervisor, Social Work Services. Parent(s) are requested to provide a written plan outlining the "who", "what" ,"when", "where", "why". <Every year>,

This plan should provide evidence of instruction at any age-appropriate and developmentally-appropriate level particularly in the areas of literacy and numeracy.
2. Parents are invited to an Information Meeting to review the issues of satisfactory instruction.
3. The Superintendent of Instructional Services will inform the Director or designate, for the purpose of completing the Ministry Report of the numbers of students on Home Schooling.
4. The Superintendent of Instructional Services arranges for

5. Parents will be requested to come to a meeting where a recommended determination of satisfactory instruction will take place.
6. If instruction is considered unsatisfactory, the legislation requires that the child return to school and/or that the Provincial Attendance Counselor be informed.
It is expected that the Superintendent of Instructional Services will maintain documentation relative to all communications with parents and specific components related to program.
