Rainforest in the Classroom Project A press conference was held at St. Teresa of Avila school. Action 2020 and Earth Day Hamilton will be leading 14 area high school students to the rainforest in Costa Rica over March Break. Upon our return, the students will be going out to area schools to present their experience in a multi-media format. St. Teresa School is one of several that have already scheduled a presentation. In doing so, they are also assisting our fundraising efforts. We need to raise about $2000 per student for a total of $28,000 in a very, very short period of time. Action 2020 is seeking corporate sponsors to put their logos on T-shirts which will be worn on the trip and during the presentations. Earth Day Hamilton and the students are holding a City of Hamilton licensed raffle. We have booklets containing 15 tickets. Each ticket sells for $5, a booklet is valued at $75. The Grand Prize is a BIG SCREEN TV, Second Prize is a DVD Player and Third Prize is a Portable CD Player. 4000 tickets are available and can be purchased at the main lottery kiosks at Jackson Square, Eastgate and the Centre Mall. We hope to be able to include Limeridge Mall, but have not been able to contact them so far. We are seeking individuals, organizations and businesses that would support the Rainforest in the Classroom project by purchasing one or more booklets directly through Earth Day Hamilton or Action 2020. Would you consider forwarding this request on to anyone that may be interested? I can be contacted at EarthDayHamilton@hwcn.org or by phone at (905) 545-5577. Best Regards, Larry Pomerantz PS - The students' Rainforest in the Classroom presentation will also take place on the main stage at Copps Coliseum on April 19th as part of our 5th Annual Eco-Festival. Everyone is invited! Please contact: The Homeschool Team for more ECO-kids events. |
