Dundas/Hamilton Hi there, and I hope everyone is enjoying the benefits of their homeschool year. The new format of the Westdale drop-ins is an unquestionable success, brought together by all of those participating. This includes both the parents and the children. The Halloween party was exciting and parading down the street in costumes was an added bonus. The chess day at the drop-ins was also quite enjoyable and beneficial to all of the children and even the parents who where present. We have many more ideas and hope you can make it out to one of our Homeschool drop in events. You can also visit the Hamilton Homeschool website to see video and photos of Homeschool events. http://www.penny.ca/Homeschool.htm The next meeting of the Dundas/Hamilton Homeschool Group will be meeting on November 16 at 8:00. The location is in the West Mountain, and the following meeting will be December 14 in Dundas. If you would like to attend any meetings, please let us know. The topic of the evening will be Sports & Physical Fitness. What do you do to keep your children in shape in your homeschool environment? Do you have any special tricks to get the children moving in the house on those bad weather days? Or do you have a sports team they participate in? Do you want to participate in an organized Homeschool sports group? Do you have any recommendations you may be able to share with other Homeschool families? Please share them. This meeting is also open to all other ideas and concerns. Please confirm your attendance, and I will send directions. Dundas/Hamilton Greetings
all, Hope
everyone had a wonderful summer, full of fun and adventure.
September has crept up on us and it’s time to think about getting
together at drop-ins again. A number of people in the group have expressed a desire for a
more structured format for the drop-ins so we thought we’d try something
new this year. By their very
nature, drop-ins are very informal and unstructured, if a more structured
format is to work, everyone has to help to make it successful – more of
a co-operative effort. A
suggested new format for the drop-ins is:
Introduce
new people to the group The
activity could be a craft, an activity such as skipping, experiments,
songs, stories or combinations thereof. It will provide kids with an opportunity to work
co-operatively as a team and perhaps, spark some new interests. Some children will be too young and some may not be
interested in participating in an activity. There will be a supervised
craft and a story time for the younger children. In
order for this to work, parents should assume responsibility for some of
the following on a rotating basis;
We
would like to put together a craft box rather than relying on parents to
bring supplies. We could fill
it with coloured and white paper, glue, scissors, pencil crayons, pastels,
etc. Parents can either
choose to purchase some supplies for the box or just donate money
(suggested $5.00). Since
St. Paul’s have graciously allowed us to use their gym, we offer a
donation to the church in return. We
ask that parents donate $10 per family in September and $10 in January as
a contribution. If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Sharon Ricci at 526-1418 or Suzy Spring at 523-6081. Your
input and help is greatly appreciated. We want to make this work for everyone! Here’s to a great year! Christine. |
