Support Pro-Valley Candidates in Hamilton East

Supporters of Red Hill Valley should get involved in the Hamilton East provincial by-election. Two of the candidates are long-time vocal opponents of the expressway. Andrea Horwath (NDP) has fought the expressway for over six years as a member of Hamilton city council. Raymond Dartsch (Green Party) is a community transportation activist who produced a video tape on the anti-expressway battle and has participated in many other actions to protect the valley. Both the NDP and the Greens have clear policy positions against the expressway. The other two parties are both pro-expressway. Mayor Larry DiIanni is personally backing the Liberal candidate, Ralph Agostino. The election is on Thursday, May 13. Friends of Red Hill Valley urges all its supporters to participate in the by-election, including offering assistance to Horwath and/or Dartsch. You can contact the Andrea Horwath campaign at hamiltoneastndp@bellnet.ca or by phoning (905) 544-0793. The contact information for the Raymond Dartsch campaign is hamiltoneastgreens@greenparty.on.ca or call (905) 561-6392.

Red Hill Tree-Sitter in Court

Kevin Hamilton cut his hair to raise $1000 at the August 5 rally and subsequently spent two and a half days sitting in a valley tree. For the latter "crime" he is now before the courts. Hamilton Indymedia has provided a report on the first part of the trial at http://hamilton.indymedia.org/en_US/resize.css/
