Call for Federal Assessment to Include Need and Alternatives
Fifteen
organizations held a press conference on December 15 to
encourage the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to broaden
the scope of their federal assessment of the expressway.
The groups called for inclusion in the assessment of:
-
examination of the need for the expressway,
- alternatives
to the expressway including alternative locations, and
- consideration
of the social impacts of the project.
The
15 groups were:

WATER (Watershed Action Toward Environmental Responsibility)
The
presence of Dr. Jim Molnar, president of the Coalition on
the Niagara Escarpment, and of Bob Sutton, the vice-president
of the Hamilton and District Labour Council were particularly
appreciated. The press conference was attended by the Toronto
Star, the Brabant weekly newspapers, K-Lite FM, the Spectator
and ONTV.
