More Trucks in Residential Areas

Terry Cooke and others say the expressway will lower the number of heavy trucks in the city. The exact opposite is true.

Completed east-west and north-south expressways will provide a shortcut between the QEW and the 403. It is nine kilometres shorter than going around the city and over the Skyway.

Heavy trucks now make up about 20% of the traffic on these provincial expressways. Many of them are taking a shortcut between Detroit and Buffalo. The new expressways will allow them to cut across mountain and valley residential areas.

They will bring noise and air pollution to these homes. They will also tear up Hamilton-Wentworth's new freeways and guarantee very high maintenance costs which will be borne entirely by local taxpayers.
