Anti-Expressway
Petition Winning Huge Support
A
petition which simply states that "We cannot afford the
north-south expressway through the Red Hill Valley" is winning
massive support in an area of Hamilton which has never elected
an anti-expressway candidate.
The petition is being taken door to door in Ward 5 and more
than two-thirds of the homes approached so far have signed
it.
This
ward is currently represented by two pro-expressway councillors
(Collins and Eisenberger). Agostino, Wheeler and Lombardo
were previous representatives. In 1994 every candidate in
this ward campaigned in support of the expressway.
More than 300 homes were canvassed in the first three weeks
of the petition work.
