Donate to the Aboriginal Lawsuit

Lawyers working on the lawsuit of Mohawk citizen Larry Green are seeking financial assistance to pursue the case asserting his and his descendents Nanfan Treaty rights in Red Hill Valley.

The two lawyers, Murray Klippenstein and Andrew Orkin, have committed their firms' resources to the case, but there is no doubt that the City will be willing to spend enormous amounts of tax dollars to oppose them. Accordingly, the lawyers indicate that they would welcome any and all financial support from the public to help cover the extensive costs of the legal steps required to undertake this important environmental and treaty rights case.

The two law firms are working to get the case into court on an urgent basis. If you are interested in supporting this legal action to oppose the construction of the Red Hill Creek Expressway, cheques should be made payable to "Red Hill Valley Defence Fund" and may be mailed or delivered to:

Andrew Orkin, Barrister and Solicitor, 103 Glenfern Ave., Hamilton, ON L8P 2T9.

Red Hill Trivia Night
March 27
Fundraiser for the Red Hill Valley Defence Fund

7 to 11 pm
St. Paul's Anglican Church,
1140 King Street West at Cline (near McMaster).

Teams of 8 people compete against other teams of 8 people (total of 22 teams) 4 rounds of 25 questions (total of 100 questions) As a question is read, the team members discuss and agree upon the answer.  All answers are recorded onto a score sheet.  At the end of the round, tables exchange their score sheets so that answers are marked by other teams (this avoids cheating!).  The scores at the end of each round are reported to the official scorekeeper.  Note: we are also planning to have each question projected onto a screen to make things easier for the players.

At the end of 4 rounds, the 3 teams who obtain the highest total score are the winners. The 1st place team gets to first choose a gift from a table of prizes.  This is followed by the 2nd place team and then the 3 rd place team.

A total of 24 prizes will be made available.  These prizes are donated by various merchants or individuals.  The value of each prize is approximately $15 - $20.

There will be a pizza break at the end of round 2 (included in the ticket price of $15 per person).  A cash bar is available throughout the evening. There will also be a raffle of 2 or 3 outstanding gifts.  And a 50/50 draw. If you cannot make your own team of 8, you can still register any number of people.  We will then create teams of 8 by finding other small groups or individuals to join you or your group.

Tickets are $15/person or $120 per team of 8 persons. The ticket price includes pizza, prizes and lots of fun! All proceeds will go towards court costs of the Red Hill Valley Defence Fund.
