Profile
and Support Keep Growing
It's
been our busiest summer ever for displays and information
tables, and the response has been better than ever. We saw
this trend right at the beginning of the summer at It's
Your Festival where people were literally lining up to sign
the petition. Support was even more evident in early August
at Festival of Friends, and the lineups for the petition
were even longer.
We
have participated in a long list of community events, including
"Night Out" festivals in Lansdale and the north
and south Kirkendale neighbourhoods, the McMaster Clubs
Fest, and an amazing evening in the Underground in early
September when the featured artists were Warsaw Pack. The
group is coming back there on October 25 and will be donating
part of the proceeds to Friends of Red Hill.
The
Serve Canada group provided a dozen volunteers in early
August, and the McMaster "Mac Serve" group will
be conducting a "Day of Caring" on October 4 involving
more than 100 students. Last year, a group of 20 did a major
litter cleanup in the valley.
The group also provides social and recreational activities
for people with disabilities, tutors children, and provides
many other services. Mac Serve is a joint project of the
United Way, McMaster faculty of Social Sciences and Volunteer
Hamilton.
Another
McMaster group participated in a cleanup in late August
and the Civitan Club is spending a half day in the valley
on September 13 where they will get hands-on guidance in
pipe watching and a guided nature tour before spending some
time removing litter.
