March 2003 Newsletter Reality Check Councillor Larry DiIanni has told us that the City will plant four trees (seedlings) for each one it cuts down in Red Hill Valley. Reality Check: In the 2003 budget we find that the city: currently cuts down 1250 more trees than they plant every year (p.819) now can't afford to plant ANY new street trees (p. 819) also can't afford to plant any new trees in parks (p.113 in capital budget) can't even afford to remove dead trees from the Barton Street median (much less replace them) (p.838) is eliminating funding for its urban forest management planning (p.818) has no money to enforce the tree-cutting bylaw (p.834)   © Friends of Red Hill Valley 1991-2005
