What is Earth Day?
Earth
Day is a United Nations designated day and represents the world's most popular
environmental awareness program as it involves over 500 million people.
When
is Earth Day and Earth Weeks? What is going to take place?
Earth Day is officially April 22. Earth Weeks cover the two week period
surrounding April 22nd. Earth Day Hamilton’s activities are a Tree Planting
event and an Educational Eco-festival. Visit the events section for more
details.
What
is the Eco-festival?
Our Eco-festival
provides an opportunity for schools, local businesses, non-profit
organizations, government agencies and individuals to share their expertise and
concerns for the health of our environment. It is a balance of education and
entertainment that offers something for everyone. Highlights include our many
workshops and our Earth Day Awards. More than 30,000 area
students have participated over 10 years.
Why
should your school participate?
Our
actions today determine the future health of our children. The Eco-festival is
linked to the curriculum and represents a fun-filled learning opportunity that
cannot be reproduced at school. Do not miss out on this opportunity!
How
can your school get involved?
We are
offering an incentive program which distributes Earth
Day Awards
based on your school's level of participation. Details related to the gold,
silver and bronze awards can be found under the "Schools" option on
the home page. Design an environmental storefront, display or activity, seek
one or more transportation sponsors and/or assist Earth Day Hamilton's
fund-raising efforts.
How
should you begin?
Start now!
Add Earth Day to the next staff meeting or parent council meeting. Invite an
Earth Day rep to answer questions. Request permission to use your school
newsletter to seek a transportation sponsor and to promote Earth Day. Complete
the registration form! It is very important to keep us informed so that we can
accommodate your travel and Eco-festival requirements. The registration form
also helps to determine which award will be presented to your school. Forward
the registration form as soon as possible. Send updates whenever required.
Why should your school participate at the
Eco-festival?
Global Warming and Climate Change are two of the most
serious challenges we have ever faced. Our actions today determine the future
health of our children. The Eco-festival is linked to the curriculum and
represents a fun-filled learning experience that cannot be reproduced at
school. Do not miss out on this opportunity! |
