Review of the November/December 1999 Yule Log
Feature Articles
"Canterbury Cathedral" by Dr. Leon
Putnam, CPC #326, relates the history of Canterbury Cathedral. Early stained glass windows
that date from around 1200 are shown on Great Britain's 1971 Christmas stamps. The windows
are in the north choir aisle along with others that picture scenes of the childhood and
young manhood of Christ.
"Christmas Philatelic Items Before
Christmas Stamps"...Rev. Wilmer Bloy,
CPC #1363, discusses how people celebrate Christmas on their correspondence even before
Christmas stamps were issued. Several covers are illustrated.
"Just a Sip" - Religion on Christmas
Stamps"... Rev. Frank Pieper, CPC #1051,
continues to share his enjoyment of collecting Religion on Christmas stamps with readers
of the Yule Log. In this issue, Rev. Pieper describes and illustrates stamps showing who
the shepherds saw when they reached Bethlehem including the animals that surrounded the
manger.
'Round the World Christmas Covers...Richard
Beecher, CPC #987, reminds us to address our Christmas greeting envelopes correctly. He
illustrates and describes two covers that did not make it to the addressees for Christmas.
"Charming Prints and Cinderellas"...Frank
Correl (Reprinted from The American Philatelist, December 1997, with permission.)
"Bilaterial Similarities: Yuletide Flora...by
Richard Louis Thomas (Reprinted from The Canadian Connection, December 1, 1996,
with permission.).
