- Brian
C. Loughlin, CPC #517
- Brian has collected Christmas stamps for over 25
years. He thinks he was the only CPC member that
lived in Saudi Arabia from 1977 through 1988. Christmas stamps helped keep Christmas
alive for him while he lived in a very Islamic part of the world.
For many years he used K-line albums to maintain his worldwide
Christmas collection. Now he is thinking of reorganizing his collection in a country by
country format instead of K-line's year by year structure. But he is not sure if his PC or
he is up to that monumental task. (Is there any CPCer who made this change that is willing
to share the benefits of their thoughts with Brian?)Brian also collects stamps of the U.S., Canada,
Ireland, U.N., Vatican City, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia.Brian is a CPA and after many years in corporate and
public accounting, he now teaches at the University of Maryland, University College. He
and his wife, Elaine, live in Catonsville, Maryland (just outside Baltimore). They are
enjoying the "empty nest syndrome" with lots of great visits from their 7
children and 2 grandchildren.

stamps from their mail to resupply her "stash" after each class. (donations
welcomed!)
Carol and her husband participate in sculling on a nearby river. She has him collecting
"rowing" on worldwide stamps. Summer olympic years help add to this collection.

collecting interests, but still loves Christmas
and its stamps.

- Roberta Olson, CPC #1517
-
Roberta has now been collecting Christmas stamps and covers for about 10 years. She has also expanded into Christmas Seals, by virtue of having contact with the Minnesota volunteer director at the state seal office, and by having a relative in Denmark who is also a stamp collector.
So far, the highlights of her collecting hobby were a trip to Rudolph, Wisconsin for the First Day of Issue of the deer stamp in 1999, and the Holiday Cookies First Day of Issue in Minneapolis in 2005.
Roberta enjoys designing her own First Day Covers for the Christmas stamps. Adding to the fun is having a granddaughter, namely Calah, age 7, who loves to do art projects with Grandma O. "I get the FDCs printed early so they can be ready for Calah’s artsy additions when I visit. (I am working also on a Minnesota FDC with her for May 17.) Once the art work is completed it is submitted for First Day of Issue postmarks and then ends up in Grandma’s collection notebooks in places of honor."
While Jack (4), and Jake (3), have colored a couple of Roberta’s FDC projects, they haven’t taken too much interest yet.
"I enjoyed making a set of 45th anniversary of Christmas Stamps FDCs last fall. The entire set includes one of every Christmas stamp issued 1962-2007. My next update will be the 50th anniversary, Lord willing.
I exhibited the set at the Melrose, Minn. Post Office during December, with the complete cooperation of the Postmaster, Pete Straka."

Donne Puckle, CPC #230
- An Episcopal priest now retired after serving 40 years
at parishes in Arizona. He remains active as an assistant at the local parish church in
Sierra Vista. Donne is married and has two children.
Donne has been collecting Christmas stamps for a very long
time. Initially, he collected worldwide but when the budget got a bit thin, he had to
reduce the scope of his collecting.
He focused on the 1969 US Christmas stamp and has
done a comprehensive study on this issue. The study is now 115 pages long. He finds very
little new material now that he has most everything but is still looking for the odd FDC
and the occasional freak printing. Donne is looking to correspond with other collectors
who are interested in this issue or have FDCs of this issue to sell. In particular, he is
looking for FDCs of this issue that are autographed by those men who produced the stamp:
engravers, modelers, designers and the Postmaster General of the time. He would like to
correspond with collectors in all those areas. He is also looking for local precancels and
additional information about them.
Information on how to obtain his study of the
"Winter Sunday in Norway Maine" issue is available on
the Christmas Resources page. While collecting the
Christmas issues, Donne has made a point of collecting information about the stamps.
Eventually, he hopes to computerize his "catalogue" of information.
