Canadian Organic
Growers Hamilton Chapter
August Newsletter
August brings back memories of hot,
sweaty days with grain dust
trailing the wagons and dancing out of
barn doors to the tune of a
threshing machine. A plethora of fresh
fruit and vegetables from the
garden ensured that every meal became a
banquet and kitchens steamed
in
ninety degree days augmented by a hot wood stove as preserving jars
full of jams, pickles, fruit and
vegetables lined the counters. From
seed to table we knew our food
intimately.
We can still
capture some of that at farmers’ markets, farm gate
stands and your back yard garden. Knowing
your food is the best gift
you
can give yourself for safe, nutritious and tasty eating. The Kerr
Village Organic Farmers Market is growing
weekly with added vendors,
theme activities, music and good food to
enjoy while watching,
listening
and relaxing.
The
need volunteers until then to help at the info/COG table, setup or take down,
spell off
vendors and sell tickets for the café... a place for all interests.

Some members have indicated a wish to
move the meetings back into
Hamilton, Sky Dragon Centre being one
possible venue. We need to
decide at the Sept. 9th meeting if this
is the wish of the majority so
we can plan the fall line up of
activities.
