COG Hamilton Annual Report
(formerly COG Wentworth-Burlington)

Canadian Organic Growers-Hamilton Chapter
2007 Activity Report
Jean Burbidge, Chair

2007 was a transition year for the Hamilton chapter, a process that
continues into 2008. We held our monthly meetings but their format
changed from speaker to a mixture of speaker, business and discussion.
As speakers, we used our own members' expertise rather than bring
someone in. We also spent time analyzing what we do as a group, what we
would like to do and how that can happen. All of this information was
used to plan meetings and events.

One of our members acted as a resource for any inquiries about
naturalizing a school yard and two of our members provided information
during the planning of a Nutrition Project for a high School in
Oakville.

In May we held our annual plant sale at Sky Dragon in Hamilton.
We had info tables at a Wellness Fair (Hamilton) in January, at the
David Suzuki event (Hamilton), Eco-Fest (Oakville) March 31/April 1 and
one of our members volunteered a COG info table at an event in Simcoe
area. From June 15 to October 28 COG-H had an info table at the Kerr
Village Organic Market each week as well as volunteers working the
market. Our volunteers included two daughters of members. These two
young women worked, sold some of their herbs and earned their required
volunteer hours.

In August we visited a sustainable community where one of our members
is living. Here we learned about sustainable housing, group decision
making, farming to feed a small community and to provide an outside
CSA.

The fall was busy at the market each week. One of our members organized
a visit from COG’s founder to the market as well as volunteering.
We held our annual corn roast in September, our AGM and organic auction
in November; and our year end pot luck dinner in December.
