Boys and Girls Clubs of Ontario Scholarship Fund

Boys and Girls Clubs believe that every kid has potential. But even great potential requires nurturing and support. And that's why in 1992, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Ontario established a scholarship fund to assist young students achieve their academic goals. From an initial grant of $4,800 and 6 awards, the program has shown a healthy growth pattern over the past twelve years. In 2003 it had grown to a record breaking $130,000 for 67 youth, due in great part to Campbell's Soup increased support to the tune of $50,000. To date over $530,000 has been given out to 359 youth across Ontario.

Making dreams come true
The rising costs of post secondary education presents significant financial challenges for many youth members who are already burdened with the personal, social and financial conditions that make academic goals difficult to achieve. The scholarship fund helps to make the dream of a university or college education come true.

Helping kids who need help
The recipients are young people who have been long time club members and youth volunteers. Many of the recipients have faced not only the burden of high tuition costs but as well the financial challenges of single parent and multiple sibling families; some are even parents themselves. They often hold down two or even three part time jobs to make ends meet. For these young people, receiving a scholarship is an honour and a necessity!

Scholarship luncheon
One of the highlights of the year is the annual scholarship luncheon hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. At this event, sponsors and scholarship recipients gather to receive their scholarships and celebrate their successes. Sponsors have an opportunity to present the scholarships, meet the recipients and mingle with other donors.
