VE3DC Contest Group - The "Early Years"

This is how it looked in the early years. The group operated "field day" style from a small house trailer and utilized antennas that were raised before and lowered after each contest. A small tower held the tribander for the higher bands, a delta loop in the background was the low band antenna and some poles on top of the trailer could also be used.

Vic VE3VMO and Don VE3OCY (above) put the finishing touches on the tribander before raising it to operating height.

Norm VE3VFR (left) sometimes dropped by as a "secret CW weapon". Believe it or not, the setup on the right produced several "1st Place Canadian" finishes in the early years of both RAC Canada Day and Winter contests.  The old trailer and shed have now given way to a new shed, much larger trailer and a few more (and slightly better) antennas and equipment in an effort to keep pace in the "Multi-Multi" world of contesting today, and provide some space for more operators!
