Preparing Information

Before you begin to plan any part of your home page, we suggest you visit existing home pages on the HWCN. Many Information Provider's have already gone through the same process of establishing their presence on-line. You may be able to get some idea of the kind of information to show the public.

When visiting other home pages, write down some links and references that you could use on your site to send visitors to for more information. You may want to see or print out what other pages look like in standard view or HTML. To view the source in Lynx press the '\' button. In graphical browsers, use the <view source> command.

Choosing Information

Before creating your home page, you must decide what information you will offer users. Look for information that familiarises the public with your organisations activities. Ask yourself: What would the public like to know about my agency? Information that highlights unique and interesting facts about your agency is effective. It is also important to keep your information accurate and up to date.

A publication created in your organisation could easily be put into an HTML file if there is one available. If you choose creating files from scratch, keep in mind not to post anything that can not be communicated publicly.
