WHO FINANCES LARRY DiIANNI'S ELECTION CAMPAIGNS?

David Christopherson has announced that he will make public his list of campaign donors BEFORE the November 10 election. Most other mayoralty candidates say they will do the same, except for Larry DiIanni. If DiIanni continues to refuse to release his donor list before the election, it may be helpful to voters to know who funded Mr. DiIanni’s last two council campaigns.

In the 1997 elections, Mr. DiIanni ran to keep his seat on Stoney Creek’s council. He recorded six donations over $100:

  • $750 LIUNA Gardens Ltd. (LIUNA is the construction workers’ union)
  • $750 Dynamic & Proto Circuits (owned by Vince Valeri)
  • $500 Aldo DeSantis Realty Ltd. (major subdivision developer)
  • $500 Paletta International (major subdivision developer)
  • $500 HomeLife Realty Ltd. (President is head of Scarlett Homes, and a past president of the Hamilton-Halton Homebuilders Association)
  • $500 A. Sestili, owner of 886723 Ontario Inc. (Stoney Creek developer)

In the 2000 amalgamation elections, Mr. DiIanni ran for the Ward 10 (Stoney Creek) seat on Hamilton City Council. He reported $13,550 in donations over $100, including $2,550 from individuals and $11,000 from corporations and unions. Almost 80% of the corporate and union donations came from the construction and real estate sector. Here are the largest donations in this category:
